Button Chart for Dashboard or URL Navigation and Filtering

1. Overview
  • The Button Chart widget allows users to create interactive buttons inside dashboards.
  • It supports navigation to dashboards, pages, filters, or external URLs.
  • Navigation works only in View / Publish / Outer modes (not in Edit or Mobile preview).

 

2. Adding a Button Chart Widget
  1. Open dashboard in Edit Mode
  2. Go to Widget List
  3. Select Button Chart
  4. Drag and drop onto canvas

 

3. Configuring Formatters

Below formatters are available for the button chart formatting.


3.1 Button Text
   • Enter text to display on button.
   • Supports labels such as:
    – Go to Sales Page
    – View Details
    – Open Report

3.2 Select Shape
   • Choose desired button shape from available options.
   • Shape affects only visual appearance.

 

4. Navigation Configuration

Below are the available formatting options in Navigation formatter of Button Chart.


4.1 Navigation Types
   User can configure navigation to:
   • Same Dashboard
   • Different Dashboard
   • Web URL

4.2 Same Dashboard Navigation

   Steps:
   1. Enable Same Dashboard Toggle
   2. Page dropdown displays pages from current dashboard
   3. Filters dropdown shows columns from all datasets in dashboard

   Notes:
   • User may configure:
    – Only Page
    – Only Filters
    – Both Page + Filters

             
Filter Configuration:

  1. Click Filter option
  2. Click Add Filters option. The modal for configuring Filter options will display. The Modal shows the Column Names in dropdown and input box for adding respective filter values.
  3. Select the required column from the available columns of all datasets. Note that this dropdown will show only categorical and numerical columns. Interval/Date columns will not display.
  4. If filter has multiple values to be filtered, then add the values separated by commas. Ex. Temperature column needs to filter on High, Medium values then add input box with values as: High, Medium.
  5. You can add Multiple filters as per the requirement.
  6. Save the configuration.

 

4.3 Different Dashboard Navigation

   Steps:
   1. Disable Same Dashboard Toggle
   2. Enter page name manually
   3. Enter filter name(s) manually. On Add Filter modal, separate options -Add and Add Numerical Column Filters are available for adding the filter based on categorical and numerical columns respectively. Select the option as per the filter you want to add.

 

4.4 Web URL Navigation

   Steps:
   1. Select Web URL option
   2. Enter URL in input box

   Behavior:
   • Opens in new browser tab when clicked.

 

5. Click Behavior by Mode

  • View Mode → Navigation enabled
  • Publish Mode → Navigation enabled
  • Outer Mode → Navigation enabled
  • Edit Mode → Navigation disabled
  • Mobile View → Navigation disabled

 

6. Navigation Behavior Rules

  • Dashboard navigation → opens in same tab
  • URL navigation → opens in new tab
  • Hover on button → URL preview appears in lower-left corner
  • Page rename → auto-updates all Button Chart references
  • Page deleted or invalid → opens dashboard first page
  1. Filter Column renamed/Deleted → ‘i’ icon added beside the filter column in filter pane which on hover shows message- Field ‘columnName’ does not exist.

 

7. Filter Validation Behavior

  • If configured filter column no longer exists:
   → Warning icon appears beside filter configuration
   → Indicates invalid field mapping

 

8. Supported Configuration Combinations

  Users may configure:

  • Only Page
  • Only Filter(s)
  • Page + Filter(s)

  All combinations are supported for both:
  • Same dashboard navigation
  • Different dashboard navigation
