Expand View option for Chart


The Expand View feature allows users to focus on a specific chart widget by expanding it to a full modal view. This provides a clearer and more detailed visualization of complex or dense data that may not be fully visible in the default dashboard layout.

 

What is Expand View?

The Expand View feature lets you:

  1. View a single chart in enlarged mode, fitted to a modal window.        

  1. Access additional chart data that may not have been visible earlier.

  1. Maintain all applied configurations and filters in the expanded state.

  1. Interact with the chart just as you would in normal view. 

The Expand View Feature-

  1. Available chart level in View modes- View/Publish/Outer.
  2. A diagonal Expand icon appears on every individual chart widget.
  3. On clicking this icon, the chart opens in a modal (popup) covering canvas of the screen.   
  1. The chart adapts to the modal’s width, ensuring better UX and improved readability.

  1. Users can apply and adjust Interactivity Filter along with global, Page, and Widget-level filters within the expanded view.    
  1. The expanded chart retains all configurations

  1. If the user navigates to another page:

                  o  The expanded chart will not persist.

                  o  On returning, the user must re-enable Expand View manually. 

How to Use Expand View – Step by step

️Expand View is available only in View Mode, Outer Mode and Publish Mode.

The Expand option can be accessed similarity across all supported chart types.
To help you understand how it works, here are examples using two different widget types — a Table and a Solid Gauge.

User Interaction flow to use expand view, first plot a chart.

A.   For Column Chart

1. Plot a chart using your dataset

The figure given below shows an original image of the Column Chart.

 

2.    Switch from Edit Mode to View Mode.

3.   Click on the chart — the Expand icon appears.

4.   Click on the diagonal Expand icon appears on chart

 

 

5. The chart is rendered in full-canvas modal, fitted to width.


6.   User can interact with the chart using filters and its own widget functionalities.


 

7.    User exist expand view on clicking expand icon (expanded state ends)

 

  

Behavior in Multi-Chart Dashboards

 

A.   In Multi-Chart View Mode

·        When multiple charts are plotted in a single dashboard or canvas, you can use the Expand View option on any individual chart.

·       Expand View enlarges the selected chart to occupy the full view, helping focus on that chart for detailed analysis.

·        Other charts remain in the background and are temporarily hidden while the expanded chart is in focus.

B.   After Expanding a Specific Chart 

·        Only the selected chart enters the expanded mode.

·        Any interactions (like filters, tooltips, or drill-downs) are limited to the expanded chart during this mode.

·        Once you exit the Expand View, you're returned to the multi-chart layout, and all charts are visible again

 

Notes

  • Expand View provides visual enhancement, not data transformation.
  • Useful for reviewing dense charts, tables, or charts with overflowed labels.
  • Fully compatible with features like:
    • Highlight
    • Interactive chart actions
    • Filters at all levels
  • Ideal for published dashboards to provide better UX for business users.
